The Cheshire Career and Engagement Hub help to provide local job seekers with insight and inspiration into healthcare careers - October 2017
Following attendance at a Job Centre Job Fair, the Career and Engagement Hub identified that it could be difficult for job seekers who had not been into a work place for some time, to find the motivation and confidence to apply for jobs.
Therefore, a ‘Health Careers Insight and Inspire Pilot’ took place on 13th October 2017,,aimed at giving job seekers an opportunity to come into a busy working hospital and to find out more about their future options in healthcare. The 2 hour session hosted by East Cheshire Trust provided 12 job seekers with an opportunity to visit the clinical skills rooms, be involved in interactive demonstrations, find out more about the wide range of careers available, hear talks from employers, find out how to apply for jobs, bank opportunities and apprenticeships, and how to build their C.V’s by volunteering and attending for work experience. Feedback from job seekers and Job Centre staff was very positive, and 5 of the 12 participants are now volunteering at the Trust and taking their first steps back into the working environment. In addition, 1 person had an interview for a position at the Trust. Plans are already being put into place to repeat this session again next year, and to look at ways that it may support further pre-employment initiatives such as Returneeships.
